Grignard reagent

Chemistry Level 1

What is the reason for Grignard Reagent being stored in ether?

RMgX is unreactive. RMgX contains carbon. RMgX reacts with ether. Very unstable and reacts vigorously with air and water.

RMgX is an important compound and has great importance in organic chemistry.R represents hydrocarbon or hydrocarbon chain connected to Mg.Due to low electronegativity of Mg than carbon, negative charge appears on carbon directly attached to Mg, and its is unstable.Since ethers have very low reactivity is used to store RMgX.
