Let Kyle carry x bags and Kensi y bags.
If Kyle gives Kensi a bag, they have x − 1 bags and y + 1 bags respectively so 2 ( x − 1 ) = y + 1 so 2 x − 2 = y + 1 or y = 2 x − 3 .
If Kensi gives Kyle a bag, they have x + 1 bags and y − 1 respectively so x + 1 = y − 1 or y = x + 2 .
Comparing the two equations,
2 x − 3 = x + 2
( 2 − 1 ) x = 3 + 2
x = 5
