Guess the value of the function!

Algebra Level 2

If f ( x ) = x 2 9 x + q , f ( w ) = 16 , w = v , v = u , u = t , t = s , s = r , f(x)=x^2-9x+q, f(w)=-16, w=v,v=u,u=t,t=s,s=r, and r = q , r=q, then the value of f ( 2 ) f(-2) is:

6 6 4 4 26 26 4 -4 10 -10

f ( w ) = f ( q ) = q 2 9 q + q = q 2 + 8 q = 16 f(w)=f(q)=q^2-9q+q=q^2+8q=-16

q 2 8 q + 16 = ( q 4 ) 2 = 0 q^2-8q+16=(q-4)^2=0

q = 4 q=4

f ( x ) = x 2 9 x + 4 f(x)=x^2-9x+4

f ( 2 ) = 4 + 18 + 4 = 26 f(-2)=4+18+4=\boxed{26}

Nicely done!
