Gummy bears are good

Algebra Level 2

André has 30 gummy bears (gelatin-based candies) and Béatrice has 18 gummy bears.

Cédric, who has no gummy bears, pays André and Béatrice 80 cents to share their gummy bears such that each person gets the same number of gummy bears

Assuming a fair division of the 80 cents, how much should André get?

The answer is 70.

They are 48 gummy bears so everyone gets 16 gummy bears.
Cédric received 16 gummy bears of which 14 were from André and 2 from Béatrice.
André contributed 14 of the 16 gummy bears so he should get (14/16)* 80= 70 cents.
