H-atoms

Chemistry Level 3

What minimum number of Hydrogen atoms are required to have all possible transitions from n = 5 n = 5 (to lower energy) finally reaching Ground state .

Note : All possible energies must be released.

Draw Energy level diagrams and check.....in exactly(min) 6 hydrogen atoms's energy transitions you would get all possible transitions.....these are as follows

n = 5-4-3-2-1 ; n = 5-3-1 ; n = 5-4-2-1 ; n = 5-1 ; n = 5-4-1 ; n = 5-2-1

You have mentioned 5-4-1 twice. By all possible transitions if u meant all possible jumps like 2-1,3-2 etc then u missed out 5-1 ,else if you meant all possible paths to reach 1 from 5 then ans is 8 .If you meant just reaching a lower state and not necessarily 1 then ans must be 16.so, question is ambiguous.

@Aniket Sanghi Please remove that hint. That makes the problem more easily solvable.
