Half A Ball In A Field

A hemispherical shell of radius, R R is exposed to an external uniform electric field, E E as shown in the figure. What is the electric flux through the curved surface of the hemisphere?

2 π R 2 . E 2\pi R^2 . E π R 2 . E \pi R^2 . E 2 π R 2 . E - 2\pi R^2 . E π R 2 . E - \pi R^2 . E 0 ( zero ) 0 (\text{zero})

Since the hemispherical shell doesn't enclose any charge, therefore, by Gauss' law, the net electric flux through the hemisphere should be zero. Electric flux through the flat surface is given by -πR^2E. THEREFORE, THE ELECTRIC FLUX THROUGH THE CURVED surface of the HEMISPHERE is given by 0-(-πR^2E)= πR^2E.
