Hang That Poster Properly

Geometry Level 1

Bill Ch'ng is a member of the Science Club and he has to hang a poster on a wall to recruit new members.

The poster is rectangular and its coordinates are at ( 4 , 2 ) , ( 7 , 8 ) , ( 7 , 2 ) , ( x , y ) (4, 2), (7, 8), (7, 2), (x, y)

What is x + y x + y ?

The answer is 12.

by drawing graph we get (4,8) the 4th coordinate.

All i did was just pairing the numbers up e.g. there are pairs of 2 and 7 and what's left unpaired are 8 and 4 so therefore the answer is 4+8 = 12

i did graphically too

i realy enjoy

according to coordinate geometry formula of third vertex thevalue of x is 4 and that of y is -4. then ans is 0

But nothing beats graphing it bro :) Try it, it's really clear :D

John Ray Matugas - 7 years, 2 months ago

Yes the answer should be 0. Because x=4 and y= -4.

the poster is square so you can assume that the line of two point (example (7,8) and (7,2) is parallel to (4,2) and (x,y); and (7,2) and (4,2) parallel to (7,8) and (x,y) ; then find the intersection ) then add the value of x and y....

kajal tomar.....ask chris boyd he did graphically too.......

I also do graphically.

Gaurav Kumar - 7 years, 4 months ago

i do it graphicaly because its a rectriangular therefore its esay

Aashish Sirshyam - 7 years, 4 months ago

this might help:

4+2=6 7+2=9 8+7=15

obviously the interval that can equate each coordinates would be 3. and so 9+3 =12 :D

This is the solution image image

i have solved this problem analytically, this is clear solution, one can get it easily

line intersecting from 4,2 and 7,8 makes the co ordinates 4,8 and it forms a rectangle so 4+8 = 12

(4,2) is the first coordinate,(7,2) & (7,8) are the 2nd & 3rd coordinate respectively,last coordinate must be(4,8) since it is a rectangle.(x,y)=(4,8)=12

just by drawing the graph and you''ll get the coordinates..

Graphically If we do it, we get it X co-ordinate 4 and Y Co-ordinate 8 which will create rectangle precisely. Hence it clearly implies a value of X+Y is equal to 4+8=12.

(4,8) = 12.

using graph, we can solve this.. by plotting the given co-ordinates

the all 4 points of rectangular ar at the right positive side ,so the remaning point is complimentry to the other 3 points ,the remaning point is (x,y)=(8+4)=12.

1ST COORDINATE IS (4,2) 2ND IS (7,2) 3RD ONE IS (7,8) THEN 4RT ONE IS (4,8) AND 4+8=12

By logic, if I'm joining the values of (4.2) and (7.8), the progression appears in (7.2) therefore only be wanting (4.8) that when added result 12

the picture is 3 units long and 8 unit high so the other co-ordinate will be (4,8) so x+y=4+8=12.

The answer is a simple pattern. The right digit was 4,8,4, so the next one is 8. The left digit was 4,7,7, so the next was most likely 4. 4+8=12.

one vertex is at (4,2) and near to it is (7,2). above (7,2) is vertex (7,8)..... so above (4,2) will be vertex (4,8) and hence (x,y)=(4,8) and x+y=4+8=12

just draw the rectangle you can find the co-ordinates for the fourth point and then just add those

can you translate it into english
