when matha was 2 years .. her brother was 1 year old .. so he is younger than her by only one year...

Present ages:

Martha's age: 2 2 years

Brother's age: 2 / 2 = 1 2/2=1 year

After 98 98 years:

Martha's age: 2 + 98 = 100 2+98=100 years

Brother's age: 1 + 98 = 99 1+98=99 years

Thus, the answer is 99 \boxed{99} years.

but when they specify that brother is half of the age , how can it change when she is 100 yrs.

Basically, 1/2 of 2 = 1. 2 - 1 = 1. 100 - 1 = 99
