Factorising gives us;

x = − 1 ± 5 2 \sqrt { x } =\frac { -1\pm \sqrt { 5 } }{ 2 }

And therefore a solution is;

x = 3 − 5 2 = 0.382 ( 3 s f ) x=\frac { 3-\sqrt { 5 } }{ 2 } = 0.382 (3sf)
