He and She had paid for themselves plus for It. It paid $1400 for his part which He and She had paid. So He and She got back what they had paid for It. They got $1400. No need to do any calculations.

Every farmer's part is 1/3(45+75) = 40 sacks.

-It paid $1400 for 40 sacks, then 1 sack costs $1400/40 = $35/sack.

-He got $35 (45-40)=35 5 = $175.

-She got $35 (75-40)=35 35 = $1225.

$175 + $1225 = $1400
