A surveyor measured the angle of elevation to the top of a building to be 28 degrees. The surveyor moved 10 meters closer to the building and measured the angle of elevation to be 40 degrees.

Determine the height of the building.

tan 40 = x/h ; h = xtan 40

tan 28 = h/(10+x) ; h = (10+x)tan 28

h = h

xtan 40 = (10+x)tan 28

x = 17.2975 meters

h = 17.2975tan40 = 14.5 meters
