Height of the Building

Geometry Level 1

A high school student measured the elevation of the top of the building to be 40 degrees. Moving 20 meters closer to the building, he found the elevation to be 60 degrees. What is the approximate height of the building?

Equation 1, h=xtan60. Equation 2, h=(20+x)tan40. Where 'h' is the height of the building and 'x' is the distance from the last stop to the foot of the building. Equating the two equations, we get x=18.79m. Substituting the value of 'x' to either equations 1 or 2, we get h=32m.
