Jack, Joseph and Jacqueline were going to buy a New Year’s Eve gift for $30. Each put $10 in. When they pay the money to the cashier; the cashier realized that the price of the gift which Jack, Joseph and Jacqueline were purchasing was not 30$ but $25. Joseph was the brightest. He told the cashier to keep two dollars, and give one dollar to each of the buyers: Jack, Joseph and Jacqueline. The question is, now that each buyer has paid $9, and Philippe, the cashier, has taken $2, (3×9+2=29) who took the one dollar missing?

The trick behind this question is the phrasing of this question which is confusing....They all paid 10 each and then got 3 dollars back . So , in all they had paid 27 dollars for the gift. But the gift was for 25 dollars .It means that they had paid 2 dollars extra for the gift. But in the question it is given that 2 dollars were with the cashier.... Hence, there was no missing dollar...
