As hexane is an alkane, it follows the general chemical formula C n H 2 n + 2 \ce{C}_n \ce{H}_{2n+2} . For hexane, n = 6 n = 6 , therefore, the formula is C X 6 H X 14 \boxed{\ce{C6H14}} .
