Potassium has the highest metallic character among calcium, aluminium, sodium and itself. Stronger the metal, stronger the base. Thus KOH is the strongest base.

Laboratory experiments have revealed that potassium ion is larger than the ions of the remaining options. So it easily lends hydroxide ions compared to other. And maybe that is the reason why KOH is generally prefered while doing laboratory experiments for proving that carbon dioxide is responsible for photosynthesis and of the sort because it is stronger. Moreover it is placed at the top in the reactivity series.
