Nice problem! If you overtake someone then you take their original position, so the answer is indeed 2nd.

I got it right, but in my opinion the question isn't nearly specific enough. 2nd person can mean pretty much anything, including 2nd to last.

No - if you describe someone as being second in a race , it's understood what you mean.

Not enough information to answer the question appropriately. Based on what we know, all you've done is overtake the second person. This could be the second person you met, the second person in place, the second to last person in place, or something else that is second in rank. If you overtake the person in 2nd place, it has not been stated that you did not also overtake the person in 1st place, or lose your place back to the original holder of 2nd place.

You cannot answer this question without it being rewritten or rephrased, with some sort of limitation. Otherwise, I could be anywhere from 1st place to Last place.

Assuming nothing else happens race-wise between when you overtake the 2nd jockey and crossing the finish line, you would be second -- otherwise, god knows where you actually end up (passing the person who is/was in first, or getting passed again by the 2nd jockey, or getting passed by everyone else including or excluding the former 2nd

yes, poorly worded question

You cannot be first as you have not overtaken the first one,

and the second one became third so you become second

Well, if you overtake the jockey riding in second place, you, well, take their place! You still have to overtake the jockey running in first place to be in first place.

Well, obviously 2nd. Nice problem. Clever :))

If you overtake a person who is at the second position, the person gets shifted to third and you become second. Simple and clever!
