By noon, 1/4 of Company X's employees had arrived to work. An hour later, 30 more employees had arrived, raising the total attendance to 1/2 of the total employees. How many employees work for company X?


The answer is 120.

Assume that x x =Total employees.Then first x 4 \frac{x}{4} employees came.Then 30 more employees came which raised the attendance to one half.This can be written as: x 4 + 30 = x 2 30 = x 2 − x 4 30 = 2 x − x 4 30 × 4 = 2 x − x 120 = x \frac{x}{4}+30=\frac{x}{2}\\30=\frac{x}{2}-\frac{x}{4}\\30=\frac{2x-x}{4}\\30\times 4=2x-x\\\boxed{120}=x

assume the no. of employees in the company is a. then; a/4 arrived and then 30 more arrive ,make a total of a/2 so a/4 + 30=a/2
and solve the equation..give a=120; that's it..
