There are 1000 participants entering a tournament. In the first round randomly 500 participants face 500 other (individually). 500 of them (half of them) who lose are eliminated. Now out of the 500 who are left 250 face the other 250....... and so on. At the end 1 of them wins the tournament. How many matches have taken place till now???

Now lets take the fact that other than the ONE participant who won, 999 of them lost. So for 999 of them to lose, 999 matches have to be played. (Even the repeated division method gives the same answer)
