How Many Minutes?

Algebra Level 1

I ran for 5 laps with a total of exactly 7 minutes and 30 seconds; each lap equals 400 meters. My father wanted to know how fast I ran on average in one lap. So my mother calculated 7.5 ÷ 5 = 1.5 , 7.5 \div 5 = 1.5, and she concluded that I ran for 1 minute and 50 seconds in each lap. Is she correct?

1.5 1.5 minutes

= 1 =1 minute + 0.5 0.5 minute

= 1 =1 minute + 0.5 × 60 0.5 \times 60 seconds

= 1 =1 minute 30 30 seconds

Therefore, No \boxed{\text{No}} , your mother is wrong

Your mother concluded that 1.5 minutes is 1 minute and 50 seconds, instead of 1 minute and 30 seconds. (0.5min = 1/2 x 60s +30s)

Typo: = 30 =30 s
