Four friends were trying to guess the number of sheep in a flock.

  • Alex guessed 21.
  • Bob guessed 26.
  • Chris guessed 20.
  • Tim guessed 21.

Two were wrong by 2 and the other two were wrong by 3.

How many sheep were in the flock?

Since the largest gap is 26-20=6,so they are both wrong by 6/2=3.Hence there are 20+3=26-3=23 sheep.

First off: is this really a medium problem and not an easy? Second: since there are 2 of by 2 and 2 of them guessed 21 it's either 19 or 23. The first one doesn't satisfy the 2 off by 3 and 23 does. So the answer is 23.
