By combining 2 hydrogen atoms, you have deuterium. Combining deuterium with another hydrogen atom will create a helium isotope. Smashing two helium isotopes will create heavy helium, so you have three steps.

I think maybe you should add one more step i.e, of increasing temperature and pressure orelse hydrogen wont fuse into helium.
