We know that the Magnetic Quantum Numbers range from − l to l , where l is the Angular Quantum number. That is, when l = l :
m l = 1 , 2 , 3 , ⋯ , ( n − 1 )
But we know that the Angular Quantum Number of an electron in the f shell = 3 . Thus the set of all possible Magnetic Quantum Numbers would be:
m l = − 3 , − 2 , − 1 , 0 , 1 , 2 , 3
Thus there are 7 Magnetic Quantum Numbers at this state.
