How much did Mark lose?

Logic Level 2

Mary is a professional thief and one of her favorite victims, Mark, doesn't know that Mary stole $ 100 \$100 from the cash register in his store earlier today. After stealing the money, Mary went home and took a nap from a hard day's work, and returned to Mark's store at the end of the day to buy a bracelet she always wanted for $ 70 \$70 with the same $ 100 \$100 bill that she stole earlier. Mark gave Mary the bracelet and then gave her $ 30 \$30 in change. How much money did Mark lose at then of the day due to Mary?

The answer is 100.

Since Mary "pays" Mark with the same money that she stole from him, she essentially paid him nothing for the bracelet she got. The bracelet costed $ 70 \$70 and Mary received $ 30 \$30 back from Mark, so in total, Mark lost $ 70 + $ 30 = $ 100 \$70+\$30=\$100 at the end of the day due to Mary.
