When Jim Bob goes to the market he has some green apples. At the market he shares his apples but also buys some new red ones. He sells his green apples to a market stall for 30p each. After that he buys 26 red apples 45p each. If he leaves the market with 30p. How many apples did he sell?


The answer is 40.

Red apples: 26 * 45p = 1170p

He leaves the market with 30p. 1170 + 30 = 1200p

1200p / 30p = 40 green apples

Answer
= (26 × 45 + 30) / 30
= 26 × (3/2) + 30/30
= 39 + 1
= 40
