This is a solution, which translates the English into Maths in the same order as it was written.

Let x be Jill's age now.

Then:

x = 2 ( − 40 + 3 ( − 10 + 2 ( 3 + x 4 ) ) ) x = 2( -40 + 3( -10 + 2(3 + \frac {x}{4} )))

After expanding and simplifying:

x = − 104 + 3 x x = -104 + 3x

2 x = 104 2x = 104

x = 52 x = \boxed {52}

This means, that Jill is 52 years old now.
