"I believe that's the end of Lacombe Enterprises."

Algebra Level 1

Luganni and Delaney spring an ambush on Lacombe. Luganni's men fired 200 bullets, and Delaney's men fired 350 bullets.

If 2/11 of the total bullets fired struck a target, and there were 4 targets in the car who each took an equal number of hits, how many hits did Lacombe's 3 bodyguards take in total?

2 solutions

Effective Bullets = 2 11 × ( 200 + 350 ) = 100 =\dfrac {2}{11} \times ( 200 + 350) = 100

Total bullet hits taken by 3 bodyguarda = 3 4 × ( 100 ) = 75 = \dfrac 34 \times (100) = \boxed{75}

There were a total of (200 + 350) = 550 bullets fired.

Of those, 550 * (2/11) = 100 found targets. So each target took (100/4) = 25 hits.

Lacombe's bodyguards therefore took a combined total of (25 * 3) = 75 hits.
