Let the amount that Adam, Bob and Charlie spent be a , b , c a, b, c respectively. Then,

b = 2 a b = 2a

c = 3 a c = 3a

Since the total spent is 840 840 ,

a + 2 a + 3 a = 840 a + 2a + 3a = 840

6 a = 840 6a = 840

a = 140 a = 140

Since b = 2 a b = 2a , b = 280 b = 280
