If you look closely, A simply doesn't fit with the pattern surrounding the missing area. The others do, but they are all the same picture shifted different ways, so we must find which one is shifted correctly.
If you look now at the missing area, you will see that it is closer to the upper left corner of its quadrant. The only image that shows the upper left corner of the pattern is Image D.
