Thats right because they give us who is not the oldest and who is not the youngest.....is all about analyzing
In the 1st statement it says that Aries is the oldest, then in the 2nd statement it says that Joseph is not the oldest and in the 3rd statement it says that John is not the youngest.therefore from this we get that
Aries's age > John's age > Joseph's age
It was easy!
This problem is solvable using the process of elimination.
We know Aries is the oldest, so add that to the oldest brother position:
OLDEST: | Aries |
MIDDLE: | |
YOUNGEST: |
Joseph is not the oldest, but at this point that could mean he is the middle or youngest brother, so we'll come back to him.
John is not the youngest. As we know Aries is the oldest, this means he can only go in the middle brother position as it's the only one available.
OLDEST: | Aries |
MIDDLE: | John |
YOUNGEST: |
Now we can return to Joseph. We know he's not the oldest, meaning that the remaining youngest position fits with this information.
OLDEST: | Aries |
MIDDLE: | John |
YOUNGEST: | Joseph |
Now that the brothers are sorted by age, it's easy to see that Joseph is the youngest.
But what if John and Joseph are the same age? So there can't be THE youngest.
pretend they were born at different times.
Aries is the oldest, John isn't the youngest, so Joseph is the youngest, bar any younger siblings.
But as John isn't the youngest, he could be the same age as Joseph, no?
pretend they were born at different times.
I can definitely see a gradient in that picture.
If Aries is the oldest, the youngest will be either Joseph or John. Again if John is not the youngest, it is obvious that Joseph is the youngest.
Easy!!!!!!!!!!!!...
Aries isn't the youngest because she is the oldest, and John isn't the youngest because he isn't the youngest and all who is left is Joseph.
This question is a bit weird because the offered conclusions are not necessarily true. It says that Aries is the oldest, but then uselessly states that Joseph is not the oldest (duh?) and then states that John is not the youngest --but they could both be the same age, technically (John and Joseph). Of course the likelihood of two people being exactly the same age is almost completely null, but it remains nonetheless. That is why I chose neither, because the other option was ungodly obvious.
As much as i admire ur line of thinking, I don't think this questions supposed provoke thought this deep. The way it's presented says it all.
aries was establish like the oldest....the other one is not the joungest then is obvious the other brother is the one
The statements...
Aries is the oldest. He is not the youngest.
Joseph is not the oldest. Of course, he isn't, Aries is. He could be the youngest.
John is not the youngest.
So Joseph is the only possible youngest.
aries out of choice he is the oldest also john is not the yongest result5 joseph is yongest
Aries is the oldest.so,he is not applicable in this case.
John is not the youngest,so he is also out of the question.
at last there remains only Joseph who fills the requirement.
since Aries is the Oldest, and John is not the youngest, then the youngest could only be Joseph.
Clue 1: Aires is the oldest. We can eliminate Aires since he is the oldest. Clue 2: Joseph is not the oldest. He might be in the middle, or the youngest. Clue 3: John is not the youngest. Since he is not the youngest, we are left with Joseph.
Hence the answer is Joseph.
bold text link text with e we can add a to make it +a.
If Aries is oldest and John is not the youngest, then Joseph is youngest. You don't need clue 2 to solve the problem.
Since Aries is the oldest, he cannot be the answer. We are now left with 2 options. Since Joseph is not the youngest, this leaves us with one answer: Joseph .
This question was asked in my exam. Someone tell me the source book, so that next time I can prepare myself for these type of questions.
Since Aries is the oldest (and hence not the youngest) and John is not the youngest, it leaves Joseph as the only possibility to be the youngest, and since it is given that he is not the oldest (which is in accordance to him being the youngest) - the only possible solution is the Joseph is the youngest.
Well Aries is the oldest and since John isn’t the oldest it is Jospeh
In the proposition, Aries is the oldest,John is not the youngest implies he is the older,Joseph is not the oldest implies he is the youngest which is true as others age identity has been unravelled
Aries | John | Joseph |
Oldest | Not youngest | Not oldest |
So, Aries is out of question
John is not youngest, so he is too out of question
Now, only joseph is left. So he is the youngest
2 were defined one left so its josep
Aries is the oldest & John is not the youngest. Thus left with one option: Joseph.
as aries is the oldes and john is not the oldest then the olny one left is joseph
look at 1 and 3. then 2 says it all
You're told that Aries is the oldest and you're told that John is not the youngest. Therefore, neither Aries nor John can be the youngest.
Jhosep in not the oldest and not the youngest.Very simple :3
What if they are twins? :)
As many say yes Joseph is the youngest but this question needs to be fixed seeing as the question asks which statement is true no who is the youngest.

As Aries is old so he is out of question. Now we are left with two options.
According to statement 3 we conclude that John is not youngest.
Thus we are left with one option: Joseph .
