I'm Walking Away

Geometry Level 1

Samuel and Samantha start walking away from each other from the same point in a clustered city of crisscross lanes. Samuel goes 70m east, turns right and goes 120m, again turns right and goes 20m, then turns left and goes 100m. He finally makes a left and stops after 100m. Samantha goes 150m north, then makes a left and stops after going some X m. If the final straight line distance of both from original point is same, find X

The answer is 220.

A diagram shows that Samuel moved 70 20 + 100 = 150 m 70-20+100 = 150\text{ m} east and 120 + 100 = 220 m 120+100 = 220\text{ m} south. Since Samantha already moved 150 m 150\text{ m} north, she must move an additional 220 m \boxed{220\text{ m}} west to be the same distance from the center.
