One way to look at this problem is to think about what is happening to the function as x x gets smaller and smaller. As x x becomes smaller, so does the denominator. When a denominator becomes smaller, the value of the entire fraction becomes larger. So, as the denominator approaches 0 0 , the entire fraction keeps getter larger and larger, tending towards infinity.
