Independent Events

Two events A A and B B are independent. Given that P ( A ) = 0.2 P(A)=0.2 and P ( A B ) = 0.6 , P(A\cup B)=0.6, evaluate P ( B ) . P(B).

P(A U B) = P(A) + P(B) - P(AB), where P(AB) = P(A)*P(B) due to independence of events.

Thus, we get 0.6 = 0.2 + P(B) - 0.2*P(B), and solving gives P(B) = 0.5.
