Determine the electromotive force of the system of infinite batteries if R R and r r both are 1 Ω \Omega and circuit as shown.

Let the electromotive force of the infinite network be V V . We note the one stage down the network is still infinite and the electromotive force is again V V . Therefore, there is no potential difference across resistors R R and hence no current flowing through resistors R R . Similarly, there is no current flowing through resistors r r . Since there is no current flow there is no drop in potential therefore, V = 2 V = \boxed{2} V.
