Ink & water problem.

Logic Level 2

You get a normal ceramic plate and draw on it with a marker. You slowly pour water on the drawing. What happens?

Take into account that the ink is less dense than water after the ethanol has evaporated.*

The ink gets erased and blurred Nothing happens The ink floats on the drawing It sticks to the plate

The ink floats on the water making it look like a drawing on water.

  • Since in a couple seconds the alchohol evaporates (doesn’t affect), it leaves only the ink behind; which is less dense than the water. So, it floats to the top. Try it yourself at home! Here is a video about it: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3NZ-cAf8Bbw

It probably depends on the type of marker used, right?

Yes. A normal whiteboard marker is the type of marker you want to do this experiment.
