Note that 16 x + 80 2 x + 11 \frac{16x + 80}{2x+11} = 8 + 8 2 x + 11 8 + \frac{-8}{2x+11} .

For y y to be an integer, the term 8 2 x + 11 \frac{-8}{2x+11} should also be an integer.

That is, 2 x + 11 2x+11 should divide 8 -8 .

The factors of 8 -8 are ± 1 , ± 2 , ± 4 \pm 1, \pm 2, \pm 4 and ± 8 \pm8 .

However, 2 x + 11 2x +11 can only take the value ± 1 \pm 1 for x x to be an integer, .

Thus, there are only 2 2 possible values for x x and y y .
