If a 6 = 8820 a_6 = 8820 , what's the sum of the digits of a 7 a_7 ?

The digits of 8820 add up to 18 showing that the next term,which is a product of it with another number,must have such digits which add up to a multiple of 9 ? I took a few chances and the answer came out to be 27.
