Suppose there's a small hole in a metal plate . Now, if the plate is heated what will happen to the size of the hole ?? please post a solution !! ( I need it )

See, when we start to heat the metal plate, the matter and material of the plate starts to expand. Common belief is that, the plate will expand where it gets the space to, and since there is space in between the plate, the matter will expand into the hole, and the size would reduce.

But, the problem is that if the plate expands in both the outwards and inwards directions, for some point on the plate, it will face two directions of expansion, thus, causing this theory to fail. As a result, the plate starts to expand only in one direction, i.e. outward and the size of the hole increases.

Just remember one thing thermal expansion is same as photographic magnification. Means distance between any two points always increase.
