1 solution

x 3 + 3 x 2 4 x = 12 x^3+3x^2-4x=12 x 2 ( x + 3 ) 4 ( x + 3 ) = 0 \implies x^2(x+3)-4(x+3)=0 ( x + 3 ) ( x 2 4 ) = 0 \implies (x+3)(x^2-4)=0 x = 3 , 2 , 2 \implies x=-3, 2, -2

So, the answer is 3 + 2 + 2 = 7 |-3|+|2|+|-2|=\boxed{7} .

Nice! I stumbled upon x=2 and then used synthetic division.
