Using probability by complement , we know that the sum of the probability that it rains and the probability that it does not rain must be 1 (since it will either be raining outside or not raining outside). To determine the probability that it does not rain, subtract the probability that it does rain from 1.

1 0.6 = 0.4 1-0.6 = 0.4 .

If the probability of having rain is .6 then of not having will be calculated as 1-P(having rain)=P(Not having rain) i-e 1-.6=.4

you subtract .6 from 1
