Angle AED is 90°, because angle A + angle D = 180°. Let´s connect the midpoint of AD (lets call it F) with point E. We know that angle FEA = FAE = EAB so FE must be paralel to AB so it is its median. This means |FE| = (x+2)/2 and also, because AED is right triangle we have |FE| = 4. From this we get x = 6.
