In technical terms, Since the percentage change of the denominator is greater as compared to numerator, when a certain number is added to both elements of a fraction, this creates a decreasing trend as denominator continues to increase.

Initial ratio: 50/5 =10

Lets take two increments of 5 years each.

1ST increment:

Marie:55 Raul:10

Ratio: 55/10 = 5.5

For confirming the trend:

2ND increment:

Marie:60 Raul:15

Ratio: 60/15 =4

Clearly the trend shows a decrease.

The beginning ratio, 10:1, doesn't tell us anything about the rate of change for each person. In order to maintain the beginning ratio, the ratio of the rates of change would also have to be 10:1, i.e., Marie would have to age 10 years for every 1 year that Raul aged. (So, she would be 60 when he was 6, 70 when he was 7, etc.).

Marie is 50, and her grandson Raul is 5. As they grow older, the ratio of Marie's age to Raul's age will decrease.

Since, the difference between the age of two persons is large. So, the increase in the age of two with some number makes a large change in the age of the grandson as compare to the Marie. In other words, we can say that there is larger change in the denominator as compare to the numerator, so this will make the ratio decrease.
