The only places where the sun does not set are the arctic and antarctic regions (with latitudes >66.5 deg in either direction). Since the man managed to experience 24 hours of daylight for as long as several consecutive weeks, he is probably quite close to either the North or South Pole.The type of bears found there are mostly polar bears.
