Let c c be the number of children, m m be the number of men and w w be the number of women. So the equations are

w = 2 c w=2c ( 1 ) \color{#D61F06}(1)

c = 2 m c=2m ( 2 ) \color{#D61F06}(2)

c + w + m = 35 c+w+m=35 ( 3 ) \color{#D61F06}(3)

From ( 2 ) \color{#D61F06}(2) , we get m = c 2 m=\dfrac{c}{2} . Then ,

c + w + m = 35 c+w+m=35

c + 2 c + c 2 = 35 c+2c+\dfrac{c}{2}=35

c = 10 \color{#3D99F6}\boxed{c=10}

The ratio of Men : Children : Women : : 1 x : 2 x : 4 x \text{Men : Children : Women} :: 1x:2x:4x . Their sum is 35 7 x = 35 x = 5 35 \implies 7x = 35 \implies x = 5

Children = 2 x = 10 \text{Children } = 2x = \boxed{10}
