You are locked in jail. To escape, you need to enter a three digit code into a lock, and only one code will lead you to freedom. You gathered some clues, which you must use to answer the question, told later in the paragraph and in bold text. Out of 682, one digit is right and in its place. In 614, one digit is right but in the wrong place. For 206, two digits are right but both are in the wrong place. For 738, all digits are wrong. Finally, for 380, one digit is right but in the wrong place. What's the code you need to enter into the lock to escape from jail? (If you get it right, post your solution.)

Seven, 3, and 8 aren't part of the code, so we can eliminate all of those numbers from the list. If six is the digit in the right place for 682, it contradicts what 614 is, so 6 isn't in the code, either. 380 has one digit in wrong place, which must be a zero in spot one or two. Since zero must be a right digit in the wrong place of 206, the zero is in the first spot. The other digit that's right in 206 is 2, because I reasoned that 6 can't be in the code. So 2 must be in the second or third place. Two now must be the right digit in 682, so the third digit in the code is a 2. In 614, one digit is right but in wrong place, and the only empty space in the code is digit two. If one is right, it is in the right spot, which contradicts clue 2. So four must be right, and must go in the second spot, Thus, the correct code is 042 . Shoutout to the Morning Brew for posting this riddle online. I solved it correctly (with a bit of help) and put the same exact riddle on here.
