JEE Atomic Structure

Chemistry Level 2

Suppose there is a sample of hydrogen atoms whose electrons are all initially at the n th n^\text{th} energy level. The total number of lines belonging to Balmer series are two.

If the electrons are ionised from level n n by photons of energy 13 eV 13 \text{ eV} , then what will the kinetic energy of the ejected photoelectrons be?

Details and Assumptions

  • Assume Bohr's Model to be true.
  • eV \text{eV} means electron volt (a unit of energy).
11.49 eV 12.15 eV 12.46 eV 12.63 eV None of the above

here it is given that there are two lines in the balmer series so 4 is the number from where it can be possible it is having the energy -0.85 so kinetic energy will be 13-0.85=12.15
