1) when both switches open

=>neglect R and find a current which passes 300 ohm, 1000 ohm, 50 ohm

2)when both switches closed

=>neglect 50 (ohm) resistor

find a current which passes 300 ohm, 1000 ohm, and R ( R and 1000 are in parallel)


and then find the value of R through algebraic calculations
