Jellybeans

Geometry Level 1

For his birthday, Bert gets a box that holds 125 jellybeans when filled to capacity. A few weeks later, Carrie gets a larger box full of jellybeans. Her box is twice as high, twice as wide and twice as long as Bert's. Approximately, how many jellybeans did Carrie get?

The answer is 1000.

Assume Bert's box is 1 x 1 x 1 which is 1 cubic meter. Then his box holds 125 jellybeans per cubic meter. Carrie has a box that is 2 x2 x2 which is 8 cubic meters. Her box holds eight times as many jellybeans as Carrie's which is (8)(125)=1000.

you all are confusing.., let me derive you this question. it is written in the question 2x125 high.= 250 ; then 250 x 2 wide; and 500 x 2 long this makes 1000..(simple) IMAGINATION IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN KNOWLEDGE

its very simple lbh=125, so 8lbh=8.125. so ans will be 8*125=1000

Volume of Bert's box = Length x breadth x height | Volume of Carrie's Box = 2 Length x 2 Breadth x 2 Height = 8 (Volume of Bert's Box) | Since Bert's Box Contains 125 Jellybeans, Carrie's Box will contain 125 x 8 = 1000 Jellybeans

If 1 cubic unit of a box can hold 125 jellybeans, when doubled in height, length and width, the capacity of the same would increase 2h x 2l x 2w = 8 cubic units and thus will hold 8 times more jellybeans. 125 × 8 = 1000 \therefore 125\times 8=1000

First you cube root 125 which is 5. The box is double in height, width and length so you then do 5*2=10 then cube your answer.

We can consider Bert's box as cube. He has 125 jellybeans in the box, So we can consider that there is 125 points in the cube. So cube side will be 5. And Carrie has cube of twice dimension as Bert that is Carrie box side will be 10, therefore there will be 1000 points implies Carrie will have approximately 1000 jellybeans.

volume increases by eight times => no of jelly beans it can hold is 8*125 =>1000.

if x y z= 125 then 2x 2y 2z=8*125=1000

Volume of Bert's box = Length x breadth x height | Volume of Carrie's Box = 2 Length x 2 Breadth x 2 Height = 8 (Volume of Bert's Box) | Since Bert's Box Contains 125 Jellybeans, Carrie's Box will contain 125 x 8 = 1000 Jellybeans

V=LxWxH V=2Lx2Wx2H=8 times the capacity. 125x8=1000.

volume of cube/cuboid is length x breadth x height so if lbh = 125 then 2l x 2b x 2h = 8 lbh = 8 x 125 = 1000
