there is no unique solution of x+y hence x=y=0/0 solving two equations we get y=a/(b-1)=0/0 hence a=0 and b=1,a+b=1

Though my method uses unwarranted assumptions, still I am writing it here:

Manipulating x y = b = b 1 \displaystyle\frac{x}{y}=b=\frac{-b}{-1} . Comparing to get x = b x=-b and y = 1 y=-1 . Using this in x y = a x-y=a a + b = 1 \rightarrow\,a+b=1 .
