Joint Champion!

Adrita & Ryne participated in a car race.

When the race started at point A -

The initial velocity of Adrita's car was 4 m s 1 4 ms^{-1}

The initial velocity of Ryne's car was 7 m s 1 7 ms^{-1}

The acceleration of Adrita's car was 0.5 m s 2 0.5 ms^{-2}

The acceleration of Ryne's car was 0.4 m s 2 0.4 ms^{-2}

They finished the race at the same time at point B .

What was the duration of the race in seconds ?

Let the distance from the initial point to B be b b .

Given, initial velocity for Adrita = 4 m / s 4 m/s

Initial velocity for Ryne = 7 m / s 7 m/s

Equating, ( As the distance for both is the same),

4 t + t 2 4 = 7 t + t 2 5 4t\quad +\quad \frac { { t }^{ 2 } }{ 4 } \quad =\quad 7t\quad +\quad \frac { { t }^{ 2 } }{ 5 } ,

60 t = t 2 60t = t^{2}

t = 60 t= 60 (in seconds)
