x + y = 15 y x+y=15-y 12 + 2 y = 15 \implies 12+2y=15 2 y = 3 \implies 2y=3 y = 1.5 \implies y=1.5 y 2 = 1. 5 2 = 2.25 y^2=1.5^2=\boxed{2.25}

12 + y = 15 y 2 y = 3 y = 3 2 ( 3 2 ) 2 = 9 4 = 2.25 \displaystyle 12 + y = 15 - y \leftrightarrow 2y = 3 \leftrightarrow y = \frac { 3 } { 2 } \Rightarrow \left ( \frac { 3 } { 2 } \right ) ^ { 2 } = \frac { 9 } { 4 } = 2.25 .
